Pismo Beach is For (Art) Lovers
They say, “Virginia is for Lovers.” We say, “Pismo Beach is for Art Lovers” (and beach lovers, and wine lovers, and surf lovers…). Whether art is your vocation, avocation, or simply something you appreciate, your travels to Pismo Beach will satisfy your need to see beauty, and trigger a fresh outbreak of creativity.
Enjoy Art in the Park
On the first Sunday of the month, from May through November, Art in the Park at Dinosaur Caves Park in Shell Beach is a lollapalooza of art, music, food, and even children’s activities. Over 100 local artisans and craftspeople gather to share their sculpture, paintings, textiles, jewelry, glass art, woodworking, and much more.
Get inspired after dark
Let the twilight motivate your artistic spirit. The first Friday of every month draws art lovers to downtown San Luis Obispo for the free event Art After Dark, sponsored by the non-profit ARTS Obispo, San Luis Obispo County Arts Council. This occasion showcases new art exhibits from established and emerging local artists in over 20 of the area’s galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces (like restaurants, salons, and boutiques).
Go gallery gazing
The art galleries of Pismo Beach are located downtown on Cypress and Pomeroy Avenues. Pay tribute to the likes of Thomas Kinkade or suck up the delicious art deco atmosphere of the Steynberg Gallery. Search for that one-of-a-kind contemporary gift at the Hands Gallery. Or simply amuse yourself and your muse by window shopping and street watching, absorbing the energy that is always available en masse in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Experiencing a writer’s block? Spending too much time staring at a blank canvas? If your medium and your right brain have hit a wall, get things flowing again by searching for illumination beyond Pismo Beach’s artistic offerings. Find artistic inspiration in the vineyards and wineries surrounding Pismo Beach, or on top of a surfboard and the waves of the Pacific Ocean. Book a getaway at the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel – the only bluff top Pismo Beach hotel with direct beach access – where you’ll no doubt find your way to the dunes at dawn with sketchpad and coffee in hand.
Come to the Central Coast because you love art, but don’t be surprised if you leave with inspiration, satisfaction, and a plan to return and catch just one more majestic Pismo Beach sunset. That might sound cliché, but every good artist knows how to take the commonplace and make it exceptional.
