Savor a Warm September in Pismo Beach
It might be September, but the summer vibe isn’t completely over. This month of the year brings some of the finest weather to the Central Coast, so get busy with these festive outdoor activities on your vacation in Pismo Beach.
Stay Frothy, My Friends
The Still Frothy Surf Festival (September 28-29, 2013) presented by Billabong is an adrenaline-charged event and will carve out some serious surf at the Pismo Beach Pier. Still, Frothy’s goal is to motivate California youth to put down the video games, computers, and smartphones and go surfing. This free surf competition for kids 17 and under lets participants score plenty of great swag, from shirts to food to surfboards. The event also includes the spectator-friendly Tow At Air Challenge and one-day pro-am, featuring some of the best aerial surfers in California and from across the U.S., who are pulled at high speeds via personal water craft directly at waves to develop unnatural speed to perform amazing stunts. Kids divisions, various challenges, and plenty of prizes (like trips to Hawaii) are available throughout the weekend. There’s plenty more – learn about it all at the Still Frothy website.
A Dreamy Night of Good Food in Pismo Beach
The highly anticipated food-focused event, Savor the Central Coast, offers an amazing array of special events and dinners. One of the favorites, in particular, is Sunset on the Sand in Pismo Beach on September 27, 2013. Get a lesson on making unique cocktails using fresh herbs from Sandra Lee, sip a glass of delish Sunset on the Sand signature cocktail, then head to the main tent for Central Coast cuisine prepared by local chefs headed by Gregg Wangard of Marisol at the Cliffs. Farm-to-table food and local wines will satiate every appetite, but leave room for the beachfront bonfire afterward with s’mores and live music.
A Harvest for the Central Coast
Let’s face it, even though we love summer, when the end of September finally arrives, you get a craving for a fine autumn celebration. Head to the 76th Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival (September 27 and 28, 2013), which will feature a cornucopia of good food, great events, and comfortable camaraderie. Dig into the treats from the ice cream making and baking contest. Or get an eyeful of the most entertaining contests, like the Paws of Thunder wiener dog races and the Whiskerino Contest for the enthusiastically mustachioed and bearded attendees. A parade, costume contest, fish fry, haunted maze, spelling bee, salsa contest, and so much more rounds out this beloved annual event.
