A Run of a Lifetime: From the City to the Sea in Pismo Beach
Whether it’s the mild running weather, gracious support from a generous community, or breathtakingly scenic views, something draws runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to the exciting and challenging 13.1 mile road course known as City to the Sea.
Starting in downtown San Luis Obispo and ending at Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach, participants will get the chance to take in historic buildings, a gorgeous countryside, and the most wondrous coastal views. Plus, they will be supporting the Cuesta College track and field and cross-country teams, ensuring athletes will continue to be able to train and race at one of the best programs in the California junior college system.
Don’t miss the 19th Annual City to the Sea Half Marathon, 5K and Kids’ Fun Run that will be taking place on Sunday, October 12th, 2014.

The Half Marathon
This point-to-point race is a USATF certified course open to runners and walkers. You will wind through San Luis Obispo’s downtown, before heading out to scenic country back roads, and finishing along the coast of the Pacific Ocean at the seaside community of Pismo Beach.
The race starts at 7:00am. Racers have access to five aid stations with water and restrooms along the way. Three of these stations also provide FLUID sports drinks and two provide GU energy gels.
If you are one of the first 100 finishers, you will receive an exclusive City to the Sea coffee mug. All racers receive the official short-sleeve tech T-shirt and finisher’s medal.
Following the race, indulge in a post-race breakfast and live entertainment, you will have earned it! Transportation is available to take you back to San Luis Obispo.
The Seaside 5k
If the half marathon if not for you, take a look at the Seaside 5K, a 3.1 mile route encompassing some of the most magnificent coastal views Pismo Beach has to offer. This out-and-back course is mostly easy-going with one challenging climb.
This race starts at 7:30am and offers one water-only station along the way.
All runners will receive an official short-sleeve tech T-shirt and can participate in all the fun post-race activities.
The Kids’ Fun Run
Get your young runners moving with the ¼ mile Kids’ Fun Run. This race is open to children ages 10 and under. Runners will race around the perimeter of Dinosaur Caves Park led by Cal Poly STRIDE team leaders. All finishers receive a race bib and fun prize and get to participate in the post-race Kids’ Zone. Talk about fun for the whole family!
Can’t run or walk this year? You can volunteer!
Just because you are not able to run or walk this year doesn’t mean you cannot participate in the fun and support this inspiring event. From packet pickup, to start line, aid station, and finishing expo positions, there are numerous opportunities available to volunteer during the weekend!
