Bowl Pismo Beach & Beyond: Traditional Family Fun with a Spin
A novel pastime in this age of extreme sports, bowling is the kind of activity that unifies us all once we lace up those silly-looking shoes and attempt to maneuver an extremely heavy ball down a greased-up lane. If you have yet to take the kids to the bowling alley, your trip to Pismo Beach is the time to start. An exciting and fun counterpoint to the beauty of the Central Coast, a bowling adventure will help the little ones and teens burn off steam, build some muscle, and create long-lasting memories for your entire family.
Bowling for Nostalgia Lovers
Pismo Bowl was established in 1939 and this family business is still going strong. The nostalgia alone is enough to draw in a crowd, but convenience is also key for newbies who are delighted to discover a hidden gem. It’s an eight-lane bowling center located in the heart of downtown Pismo Beach, easy to head over to after a day at the beach or a quick bite to eat. Or, save your appetite and dig into the deliciousness at Pismo Bowl’s coffee shop diner – bacon cheeseburgers, cheese fries, cheesesteak, beer on tap, or some of the best bowling alley pizza you’ve ever had!
The retro ambiance and coziness of Pismo Bowl welcomes locals and visitors alike and takes them into a slice of the past. And while Pismo Bowl screams old school with their above-ground ball returns, their equipment is regularly updated, and their arcade and billiards offer even more entertainment for the family to enjoy.
The Bowling Spot for Big Thinkers
The newly renovated Mustang Lanes knows how to cater to the family crowd. All 10 lanes are equipped with bumpers so the little ones aren’t throwing gutter balls every turn. An added plus, it now shares space with an on-campus restaurant.
What your kids might think is the coolest part of Mustang Lanes, however, is its location on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo. Situated on the bottom floor of the Julian A. McPhee University Union, Mustang Lanes provides a taste of collegiate life and a throwback to “simpler” times with new and classic arcade games and tournament billiard tables. Bear in mind that when bowling classes are being held during the school quarter, the lanes are occupied from 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday. Otherwise, these bowling lanes are open to the public.
Schedule a Bowling Weekend and More in Pismo Beach
Whether you’re already a bowling family or have yet to become one, spending time cheering each other on and enjoying a beloved bit of old-fashioned recreation is always good for connecting with the kids. If your next vacation or family road trip brings you to Pismo Beach, be sure to make it a well-rounded bit of family fun by booking your stay at the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel.
If your kids aren’t already impressed at being on the Central Coast doing cool things like bowling near the pier, they’ll give you props for spoiling them with direct beach access and a view so legendary you might get them to put down their handheld devices for a little while to enjoy a sunset and time with the people who love them.
