A Nostalgic Retrospective of the SeaCrest’s OceanFront Treasure
It’s throwback time.
In some ways, the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is a familiar place – perhaps we’re neighbors or your favorite getaway. But when you peel back the curtains, you may find the SeaCrest holds a local presence with a deeper history than you realize.
We want to reminisce with you, share some of our favorite historical snapshots of this coastal getaway, details, and stories setting the SeaCrest apart as a magical place to stay and play – today and for the last 54 years.
Built in 1962, the SeaCrest has always been and continues to be a family-oriented getaway, a place to come and relax together – including children and pets! Besides the central lawn and other areas meant for gathering and being together, the grounds have always included play areas, like a real shuffleboard court for recreation and entertainment.
Originally owned by Henry Meyers, the SeaCrest truly set the tone for the whole area of Pismo Beach oceanfront hotels with its beauty, elegance and hospitality. In 1980, under the second owner, Barney Northcote, the towers were added to expand the opportunity for even more families and groups to stay. Visitors couldn’t get enough of this little piece of Pismo Beach heaven.
The hotel has always shown a commitment to remain updated and beautiful, constantly renovating for maintenance and for style. In 2014 the SeaMist Terrace renovation updated and expanded this popular outdoor area to make it more enticing than ever to enjoy the coastline view. What was once a gravel corner of the property with assorted picnic tables, the Terrace now offers an elegant place to soak in the ocean views, including three natural gas fire pits, cozy couches and chairs, a marble-topped self-serve dry-bar with bar stools, and three state-of-the-art gas barbeque grills. Party at the Terrace!
The current owners have even added luxurious appointments and amenities such as Keurig coffee makers, ipod docking stations, and flat panel HDTVs with DirectTV and Wi-Fi access. You can see what hotel updates are happening at any given time here. Through all the ages and stages, the SeaCrest has proven to be an escape where visitors can count on being pampered and delighted, in style.
Knowing how wonderful a visit can be, some guests have been coming back for many years, even bringing multiple generations. Some families, like Mitch German, have been coming back for 50 years or more.
Mitch started coming with his family as a child the year the hotel opened, and has been coming ever since. He now even brings his company, Muscle Guys Logistics, under the SeaCrest Corporate Travel program.
Brenda and Vince spent their honeymoon at the old “SeaCrest Resort Motel” and renewed their vows on the SeaCrest OceanFront Terrace 47 years later with their closest friends and family.
Congrats to our long-time guests on establishing beautiful family traditions – and thank you for including us!
