Got Goals? Top 2017 Central Coast Running Races and Triathlons

The central coast is known for year round recreation. At its heart, Pismo Beach offers some of its own events as well as a place along some of the most breathtaking, scenic courses available. Check out these favorite races and set yourself some worthy goals for 2017.

1. Pismo Pier to the Plunge (January 1)

Start your year off right with a new favorite Pismo Beach activity.  The 5K all-ages run will take place entirely on the beach, starting and finishing right by the historic Pismo Beach Pier. You’ll also have a chance to earn your “Pismo to Plunge” headband by taking the plunge after you finish! Kick off the year with some fun. More Information >

2. Castle to the Coast Fun Run (January 14)

This unique local event covers 8.2 miles of beautiful ocean view beginning at Hearst Castle/San Simeon State Park and finishing at Shamel Park. Registration is open to only 300 participants, so register soon to secure your spot in this fun run. More Information >

3. SLO ColorBlast Fun Run (January 21)

Not only is the SLO Color Blast a great way to start your race season, it also supports a great cause. Proceeds from the Color Blast Fun Run help fund the Alex Maier Memorial Fund and the Black & Gold Fund to promote happy attitudes and scholarships for graduating high school seniors as they enter college. 4. Mix It Up in March with a Wine Country Half Marathon (March 26)

This FUNdraiser really calls out the party animal athlete. Enjoy a scenic view of Paso Robles wine country along the 13.1 mi or 5K course. You can also include your kids for a romping good time at the Kid Wine Stomp, a half mile fun run. 5. SLO Marathon and Half Marathon (April 29-30)

April 29-30, much of SLO county focuses on the marathon and half. In its seventh year running strong, the marathon and half welcomes all levels of runners and walkers on a course celebrating the best of the central coast scenery. 6. Family Care Network’s Miracle Miles for Kids 10K (May 13)

This local annual tradition provides funds that help meet critical needs of more than 1,500 children, youth and families served by FCNI. The course runs along the water’s edge from Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier. This is another great way to support your community.   More Information >

7.  Wildflower Triathlon (May 5-7)

This event is a must do for any serious triathlete. The Wildflower is known as a launching pad for many top triathletes as each year records are broken, stories are told and history is made. Challenge yourself and have an amazing time. More Information >

8.  SLO Triathlon (July TBD)

This short course (or sprint) triathlon consists of a 0.5-mile swim, 15-mile bike and 3.1-mile run and is a great first triathlon for anyone wanting to dive in for the first time. Participants are sent on the course in waves throughout the day. If you’re in the area, come out to race or volunteer. Registration opens in April. More Information >

9.  Wild Cherry Canyon hosts the SLO Ultra (Sept. 9)

Everything gets nutty when Wild Cherry Canyon and the Land Conservancy cook up a cross country ultra race. Choose your distance at a 50 mi ultra, 26.2 mi xc marathon, 13.1 mi xc half or 5 mi trail run/hike. The course includes uncharted rugged ranges of the private Land Conservancy and PG&E properties and covers some of the most beautiful (and wild) vistas in the county. More Information >

10.  City to the Sea Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Run (Oct TBD)

The mission of the City to the Sea race is to provide a top-quality, positive, family-friendly event that helps promote a healthy, active lifestyle on the Central Coast. This inclusive event promises a great experience as well as an opportunity to contribute to our local Cuesta College Track & Field and Cross Country teams, as funds from this event help support them.
