Last-Minute Gift Idea: A Pismo Beach Experience
The very best gift you can give someone is the gift of love. What if you share that love with your family in a package made from delightful shared experiences? The memories made of this kind of magic will last a lifetime, a gift that is given over and over.
If you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea this holiday season, consider Pismo Beach. One of the most charming California beach towns, Pismo is scenic, accessible, welcoming, and fun. When you come to Pismo Beach, you can roll back the calendar to how California was before freeways covered everything, slow down and savor the moments you share, whether it’s on the beach, trails, or in the shops.
The SeaCrest is a perfect home base for your Pismo experience, beginning with one of our CoastalView Guestrooms. Pack your day with things to do, or keep it low-key. At the end of the day, enjoy a BBQ on one of our gas grills, or walk down to the pier for dinner in one of the family-friendly restaurants.
If you want some help with things to do, here are some ideas for everyone in the family:
On the Beach
The wide white sand beach is one of the most beautiful in California, and it’s not crowded. Rent a bike, rent a horse, or just pull on flip-flops or sneakers and stroll along the tideline playing tag with the waves. The soothing sound of the waves breaking against the sand is a constant companion—it’s almost impossible to carry stress or worry on the beach.
Feeling more active? Of course, you can jog or run on the beach, with or without companions. But there’s also broad expanses in our 17 miles of beach where you can set up for volleyball or just play an impromptu game with any kind of ball. Bring a picnic and make a day of it.
Ocean sports are part of old California, with surfing leading the way. The oldest surf shop on the Central Coast is in Pismo, and there are plenty of other ways to get your exercise on the water: kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding anyone?
Pismo Beach has lots of small shops you will enjoy, just browsing or in a buying mood. A little further afield you will find an outlet mall with top quality name brand stores packed with bargains.
Especially for Kids
You and your kids will be delighted by the beach and amenities in Pismo Beach, but San Luis Obispo County offers even more great options for the young ones. In SLO, the Children’s’ Museum is open every day except Monday, and offers a lot of fun exhibits for kids. The Natural History Museum in Morro Bay was designed specifically as an interactive learning experience that teaches about the ocean and bay environments. If you want a fun place to watch animals, the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero is easy to get to and rewarding for all ages.
Pismo Beach is within 20 miles of fun and interesting places. Drive a little south on Highway 1 during winter to see the famous Monarch grove, with thousands of gorgeous butterflies clinging to the eucalyptus. Go a little further south and visit the Dunes Center in Guadalupe to learn about the amazing vast sand dunes (and learn about the huge movie set Cecil B DeMille built for his version of Ten Commandments). Head toward SLO on Highway 101 and stop by the water park, or go all the way into Avila to visit its charming little beach with a wonderful kids’ playground.
When you get here, we will be happy to let you know what’s going on, and where it is. SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is at the center of the experience. Give the gift of memories that last. Book a stay with us today.
