Fourth of July Fireworks and Fun in Pismo Beach: Are You In?

Fourth of July Fireworks Pismo Beach

The highlight of the summer is just one month away – where will you be celebrating Independence Day? If you have your mind set on a perfect escapist locale with a temperate climate, hit the road and head to Pismo Beach!

Summer is hot, so get cool in Pismo Beach

Need to decamp from the Inland Empire area (we know you’re boiling there!) and breathe some fresh, ocean air? Whether you’re Central Coast born and bred or seeking a great excuse to travel to one of California’s most happening and beautiful beaches, Fourth of July in Pismo Beach is the best time to make that excursion a reality.

Pismo Beach is known for its annual Fourth of July celebration, packed with music, food, and the stunning Grand Fireworks Display from its famous 1,200-foot Pismo Pier. Get a front-row seat on the sand or the promenade beside the pier so you can enjoy the sparkling, whizzing, popping extravaganza.

Pismo Beach is the go-to destination for reveling in lazy, hazy days of fishing from the pier, going full-tilt off-roading among the Oceano Dunes, or riding the waves.  And since the Fourth falls on a Wednesday this year, you have the perfect excuse to plan a long, long weekend away, so you can enjoy Pismo Beach from top to bottom.

Be a SeaCrest VIP on the Fourth

Celebrate the U.S. of A. before, during, and after the Fourth of July by planning more than just one day and night of revelry and pyrotechnics.

Whether you’re coming alone, with friends, as a couple, or bringing the whole family (including the dog), book your stay at the only bluff top Pismo Beach hotel with direct beach access – the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel. Claim your patch of sand on the Fourth before the crowds descend, so you have the best spot for firework-watching, music-listening, and general camaraderie and relaxation.

Want an even better view of the show? SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is hosting a 4th of July VIP Party on our Rooftop Terrace for the over-21 crowd, which includes a tasty dinner, local wine and beer, happening entertainment, and premier seating for the Pismo Beach Grand Fireworks Display. Availability is limited, so reserve your space today by calling (805) 773-4608.

Make Your Next Business Meeting or Event “Pismo Beach Casual”

pismo beach meetings and eventsWhile the ideal world would consist of play all the time, most professional folks would agree that the opportunity to at least mix work and play is the next best thing. So make Pismo Beach your destination for that family-friendly company gathering, work retreat, casual conference, or board meeting (turned “board” meeting). There’s nothing like sand, surf, and stunning sunsets to spark some amazing ideas, inspire brainstorming sessions, and serve as a picturesque backdrop for after-hours events.

Pismo Beach is the Convenient Coastal Destination for Business Casual

Located midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles and just 10 minutes south of San Luis Obispo, the range of Pismo Beach activities stretches beyond the sloping dunes of California’s Central Coast. From wine tours and tastings to a few rounds of golf, trendy shops to five-star restaurants, Pismo Beach is a treasure trove for work-related excursions and off-hours shenanigans.

Whether you’re a straitlaced organization looking to let loose or a laid-back enterprise aiming to reinforce your company culture, Pismo Beach is booming with possibilities and oozing in casual grace.

Our spacious and comfortable hotel meeting areas can accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people, and we also have intimate meeting spaces for smaller groups, seminars, or workshops. The SeaCrest offers a glass-enclosed scenic rooftop terrace and ocean view BBQ areas for entertaining – no ties or suits allowed! (Not really, but we certainly recommend flip-flops and shorts.)

Pismo Beach Surfing: It’s All Good!

If you’re looking for a place to surf away your vacation, weekend, or afternoon off, there are few areas of the Pacific Coast that rival surfing in Pismo Beach. Even better – newbies and seasoned surf masters co-exist at Pismo Pier.

Hardcore Surfers Can Hang Ten with Pismo Beach Surfing

The experts at Surfline describe Pismo Beach Pier best, categorizing it as a consistent, shapely Central Coast beachbreak, a hub of south county surfing. Hardcore, experienced surfers will appreciate that the pier is in a slight northwest swell shadow and not overly windy or exposed like some sandbars.

You’re pretty much guaranteed some white sand beachbreak and solo peaks if you desire to venture further down the coast, but hanging in the pier vicinity is stellar, with a beach that gently slopes out from the water’s edge. Pismo Beach surfing offers soft waves and wind-blocking hills behind the city of Pismo Beach that keep the land warm.

Surfing Neophyte? Take Pismo Beach Surf Lessons

Pismo Pier surfing has produced its fair share of talented surfers, but that doesn’t mean newbies should be daunted by the wind and waves. Pismo Beach surf lessons are plentiful, and recommended. Surfline categorizes the ability level of Pismo Pier surfing as beginner and up, so before you know it you could be hanging ten (or at least five) with the best of them.

Whether you’re a California native or brave tourist, if you’re new to the surf scene there’s no better way to get initiated into the fraternity (or sorority) of swells and breakers than with Pismo Beach surf lessons. Bonus: The friendly, comfortable vibe of the Pismo Beach community makes for laid-back goings-on after your day among the waves.

Go on a Pismo Beach Surfing Safari

If you’re headed to the beach to catch some waves, you’ll need a place to park yourself and your board. The SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is offering a Surfin’ Safari package now through early May 2013. Beach Boys fan or not, there’s no denying the excellent offerings of Pismo Beach’s tastiest hotel.

Book your one-night stay in an OceanView King or CoastalView 2-Queen room at the SeaCrest, which includes surf lessons for two, courtesy of Shell Beach Surf Shop. Surfboard and wetsuit rentals are also part of this package.

Whether testing the waters of Pismo Beach for the first time or dipping into Pismo as a long-time wave-rider, a day of Pismo Pier surfing calls for a refreshing evening of rest from your hotel balcony with a sunset view and a delicious drink, delivered by the SeaCrest’s Thirst Aid to the Rescue beverage delivery service. And, hey, if you’re prone to midnight surfing jags, Pismo Beach Pier is lit at night, meaning full-moon surfing sessions are an adventure just waiting to happen.

Excellent! The Wine, Waves, and Beyond Event for AmpSurf Lands in Pismo Beach

wine waves and beyondCalling all dudes, honeys, beach bunnies, and beyond! What’s better than blending wine country with surf culture for a good time? Meshing the two for a good cause. For the third year, the surf and wine event Wine, Waves, and Beyond hits Pismo Beach May 31 through June 4, with all proceeds going to support the Association of Amputee Surfers (AmpSurf).

In the past two years, Wine, Waves, and Beyond has raised $26,000 for AmpSurf, a non-profit organization that educates and rehabilitates people with disabilities. One in five Americans struggle with a lifelong disability, from veterans to cancer survivors to children of autism – through adaptive surfing and the healing power of the ocean, this unique program aims to be both mentally and physically rejuvenating.

And there’s no better place than Pismo Beach to hold this primo event to raise funds for this incredible cause. The Central Coast is backdrop and foreground to a surf movie night, brew masters dinner, longboard surf contest, and VW display, which bookend the Barrel to Barrel event being held at the Cliffs Resort on Friday night, featuring a wine and beer tasting, food, live music, silent auction, and a swimwear fashion show.

We’re Proud to Support Wine, Waves, and Beyond in Pismo Beach

As a proud supporter of the event, SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is offering a Wine, Waves, and Beyond package deal including a one-night stay in an OceanView King room, two tickets to the Barrel to Barrel event (over 35 visiting wineries and breweries!), and a scrumptious bottle of Laetitia Vineyard wine – because what would a wine and waves event be without a view and a vintage? This package is available at $249 for two people – and 5 percent of our proceeds will be donated to AmpSurf.

Indulge yourself in the surf culture. Kick back with some fab wine. And enjoy the sunset and ocean scenery that only Pismo Beach and SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel’s direct beach access can offer.

Pismo Beach California Pier Fishing Is Off the Hook

pismo beach pier fishingRod and reel enthusiasts and casual fisher folk alike will be more than satisfied when they follow the tide to the perch, flounder, sole, halibut, and shark population in the waters lapping against the famous Pismo Beach Pier. The calming tides and stunning vistas of this temperate, sunny California area make Pismo Beach Pier fishing an in-demand slice of leisure.

The Bait: One of California’s Popular Pier Fishing Destinations

An estimated 1.5 million people visit the Pismo Pier annually – it’s the most heavily fished and second-most-productive of the Central Coast piers. features information and fishing tips about the aquatic life that meanders in the waters of Pismo Beach, so you’ll know what you’re up against before you bait that hook. Learn about the schooling species in the summer catch, the fickleness of the boccaccio, your best bets for bait, and the perfect time to lure in perch.

Pismo Beach Pier is also a popular destination for the time-honored tradition of nighttime shark fishing. Depending on weather conditions and the tide, the “regulars” – sand sharks, leopard sharks, thresher sharks, and bat rays – typically make an appearance at the pier after twilight.

The Line: Historic Pismo Beach Pier Is a Keeper

Today’s Pismo Beach Pier is the first pier that anglers encounter when heading north through Central California. At 1,600 feet long and 27 feet above the low water mark, the pier originally cost just under $15,000 to build in 1881. (Compare this to the more than $1 million spent to restore the pier in the 1980s.)

When Southern Pacific Railroad built a line from San Luis Obispo to Ellwood in the late 1800s, massive numbers of tourists found their way to Pismo Beach, making it a must-see destination. Pismo Beach hotels appeared in record numbers and thrived as they handled the influx of visitors.

The “Reel” Deal: Where to Stay When Fishing at Pismo Beach Pier

Tourists and locals alike are drawn to Pismo Beach Pier for good fishing and a respite from the summer heat, a tradition that began in 1895 and to this daythe Pismo Beach area is very crowded during the summer months.

Whether you plan to visit during tourist season or fish with the local anglers in the off-season, make your reservations with the Pismo Beach SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel now to ensure that you’ll be privy to ocean views, direct beach access, and the amenities that only the finest Central Coast accommodations can offer.

Plan Your Adventurous Pismo Beach ATV Vacation

pismo beach atv vacationWhat could be even more exhilarating than riding an ATV through the wilderness or down a deserted country lane? How about your own sand and dunes off-road playground in Pismo Beach? The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA), formerly the Pismo Dunes SVRA, draws ATV enthusiasts from all over the country. For good reason!

The Oceano Dunes’ handsome natural architecture has been shaped by the strength of the Pacific Ocean currents and the power of the winds to create a majestic seascape for the avid ATV rider and neophyte off-roader alike. The Oceano Dunes are recognized as California’s finest and most extensive coastal dunes, offering ATV riders a terrain of wave-like crests traversing north-south, gentle slopes heading west, and steep inclines running east.

ATV aficionados trek to Pismo Beach, set up camp at the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel, and tackle this geologically unique sand dune complex on their ATVs, taking time to swim, surf, camp, hike, or surf fish as well during their visit to the Central Coast. Whether by foot or ATV, true explorers also appreciate the Oceano Dunes for its plentiful varieties of animal and plant life.

The Pismo Beach area year-round temperature ranges from 66 to 84 degrees. With an average 315 days of sunshine annually and 23 miles of coastline to devour, there are plentiful opportunities to explore on an ATV, by foot, or in the water. Travelers migrate to the coast from near and far, bringing their own off-highway vehicles or renting from one of the many local area ATV rental companies.

At the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel, we’re proud to be a popular Pismo Beach hotel choice for ATV enthusiasts, situated just minutes from the Oceano Dunes, offering direct beach access via a five-acre oceanfront bluff. And when you’re not “surfing” the dunes, your retro-chic accommodations are equipped with the most modern services, including free WiFi Internet, a complimentary continental breakfast, and even fresh baked cookies. Hotel guests take a short walk to Pismo’s Restaurant Row and Pier Shops, for a refreshing recharge after an exciting day of ATV riding on the Oceano Dunes.

Planning a San Luis Obispo Wine Tour

san luis obispo wine tourYour San Luis Obispo Wine Tour will not be complete without a visit to the south side of the County in the designated American Viticultural Areas of Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley. Located within minutes of Pismo Beach, these areas are deserving of the worldwide recognition they have garnered for exceptional quality wine grapes, scenic vineyards and wineries.

Whether planning a San Luis Obispo wine tour for an intimate couple’s weekend or for an entire group, you’ll find plenty of ways to create a memorable experience in this ideal region.

Here are a few tips to help you plan your San Luis Obispo Wine Tour:

san luis obispo wine region map

1. Stay Central

Whether you head to San Luis Obispo County for a night or a few days, be sure to stay some place central to the wineries you wish to visit.  In the South County, Pismo Beach makes the perfect central destination for the world-class EdnaValley and Arroyo Grande Valley wineries.  And, if we do say so ourselves, the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is a favorite among Pismo Beach hotels, offering ideal accommodations for travelers who enjoy the best of wine and waves.

2. Professional or Self-Guided?

When planning your wine tour, decide if you want a professional driver and guide or if you wish to drive and guide yourself.  There are several considerations here, but the most important is safety.  Never drink and drive! If you can’t appoint a designated driver in your group then it makes sense to hire a professional.

Another consideration is familiarity with the wineries and local area. A professional tour guide will be able to recommend wineries based on your tastes and what you’re seeking in a wine tour experience. Interested in visiting a small family-owned winery specializing in Chardonnay? Or do you prefer a larger, more established winery? Do you want to relax awhile at each winery and enjoy the views or see and taste as much as possible within your given timeframe?  A professional guide can help make your vision a reality.

We are happy to recommend this great local wine tour company: Breakaway Tours.  Give them a call and tell them the SeaCrest sent you!

3. Package it Up!

Here’s an easy and affordable way to enjoy the wineries of South San Luis Obispo County.  Take advantage of our Uncork the Edna Valley Wine Tour Package. You’ll travel the back country roads and discover the hidden local favorites of San Luis Obispo County’s wine country. We’ve teamed up with Breakaway Tours to give you more than just ‘something to do’, with knowledgeable and fun wine tour guides.

Our San Luis Obispo wine tour package for 2 people includes:

  • A one night stay in an OceanView King or CoastalView 2 Queen guestroom.
  • Transportation to and from the SeaCrest.
  • Tasting at 4 unique wineries in the Edna Valley wine country.
  • A delicious gourmet lunch in the most picturesque of settings.

Enjoy all of this for just $319 for 2 people.

(Note: Price valid until June 1st, 2012, tasting fees may apply; see our website for additional details and restrictions)

Finding a Dog-Friendly Hotel in Pismo Beach

dog friendly hotel pismo beachYour dog is more than a pet; he’s part of your family. So when it’s time to plan your vacation, a dog- friendly hotel in Pismo Beach is just what you need. And don’t think you have to skimp on the quality of hotels to find a place that will accommodate Fido. Today’s dog-friendly hotels go above and beyond, to make your vacation a great one for you and your dog.

So what can you expect to find? Well, we think there are a few standards you should look for – after all, you don’t wish to include your dog at the expense of your own comfort.

Plenty of space for your dog to roam

It can be frustrating to stay in a hotel with your dog, only to realize you have to get in the car and drive to the nearest park just give Fido a place to stretch. Ideally, you’d love to have grassy spaces – or – even better yet – a beach that permits dogs.

Dog-friendly rooms

Another common frustration with “pet-friendly” hotels is you may be limited on room choice – for example, only one-size bed, or you may be placed in a room far from amenities you wish to enjoy. Make sure the hotel offers you a range of room types, and your room is located with easy access to the outdoors and amenities.

Added luxuries for Fido

With all the packing (particularly if you have children!) that vacations require, it can be easy to overlook your dog’s necessities, such as extra food or treats. And what about dog bowls or a dog bed? Will you even have room in your car to accommodate everything you want to bring? Fortunately, inPismoBeach, there’s a dog-friendly hotel that not only offers food, dog toys, gourmet dog biscuits, bowls, and beds, but even a Canine Concierge who gives tips on where to take your pet and advises pet-friendly activities.

The Pismo Beach SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel is Your Vacation-Friendly, Dog-Friendly Choice

At SeaCrest, we love dogs and we know they’re truly a part of your family. The ideal vacation for you includes the ability to bring your dog, and stay in a comfortable, ideally located hotel, offering amenities for both your family and your dog.

We are pleased to offer plenty of grassy space, designated to accommodate dogs, in addition to pet-friendly rooms featuring a double queen or king, and, our favorite feature – a Canine Concierge service. We’ll give you a welcome brochure that lists pet-friendly activities, and treat your dog to gourmet dog biscuits. We also offer pet beds, extra food, and water bowls.

We can’t wait to have you and your dog as our guest. Check out our Best Doggone Vacation Package for your next visit toPismoBeach.
